Opening you're site..
wix.com > my account > launch editor > and we're in!
Getting our site ready to edit..
Now you have you're site open, let's set the size of its publishing boundaries - to do this go to the 'settings' button up the top and click it - this will open up a 'dialog box' where we can set all of our preferences.
Now find the "Page: Width: XXXX & Page Height: XXXX" boxes - a good resolution to begin with is 1200 x 1100 but you can adjust the resolution to what ever suits you're monitor and theme best.
Developing our theme..
Now that we have set our sites resolution - lets decide what 'background' color to use:
On the same settings dialog box there will be a 'Background Color' button, click the blue box ( this blu is the default color) and you will be presented with a color pallete - choose whichever color you want.
Close the 'settings' dialog box and travel to the 'page parts' nav-bar on the top-left of you're screen.
Select the 'Background' option - this will present us with a range of colors and designs of which we can use as our sites background!
I suggest you use a neutral color like black or white - but if you want your site to be a little bit flashy, feel free to pick any vibrant background you wish!
The transform border...
After you are done choosing your background, click on it, a white border will appear (this is called the transform border) note that this transform border is 'locked' - to unlock it, move your mouse to the top left corner and you will see a red colored lock icon.
Simply click this icon and you're background will be 'unlocked' (note. you can apply 'locking' to any object, it's especially useful if you are grouping objects.)
You can now pull and twist you're background until you are happy with it's layout.
Assigning a header to our site..
We will now create what is called a 'header' - headers are used to properly situate logos and other signage on a website, they also map out a nice outline for your menus! This sites header is a good example - it is not too over-the-top or flashy, yet it gives a nice clean feel to the site - it also sets a nice stage for the navigation menus up the top.
To make yours, you must decide on one main color to 'theme' your site (this sites theme is light blue). A properly layed out theme can split the difference between a professional and not-so-professional site.
To create a header go to clip art > shapes > square. you can then select the color you want from the menu at the bottom of the editor.
Position it so as it fits nicely with the sides of your 'background' - next, put you're logo or site name in the top left or right of the header.
Laying out our content...
page parts > areas > iarea. click and twist the transform box around the area to position and scale it nicely. We will use these to house our content.
We have now finished our raw site template, if you would like to add other pages with different themes, go to the top right of the page and select 'add page'. If you would like to create more pages with the exact same layout and theme as you're first; go to 'Manage' and find you're home page > click the duplicate button (The one with two little boxes lapped over each other.)
Let's make a you're site look professional..
look at it - is it really what you are looking for? Is it stylish enough? Professional enough? And conventional enough? If not, heres some things we can do to improve our results.
Be a perfectionist:
Make sure that you're header is perfect - make sure it is alligned with your page, and try to make it flow into you're site (you're header and backround should act as one individual object.
Font:
Choose you're text wisely - a misused font can make or break any site.
Colors:
Don't make you're site to dark or uninviting, avoid using bold colors such as dark blues and purples, and reds. When choosing buttons for a site menu, look at you're site's theme carefully and select the design and color you think goes with it.
Buttons:
When installing buttons, make sure that theyare alligned with a corner or line so they aren't just floating around.
